It is no longer a risk: it is a reality.

Regeneration is becoming a recolonising force for the Global North to again perpetuate its propaganda onto the Global South.

Now, breathe.

Re-read that sentence, and reflect.

What is coming up within you? Do you wish to discuss how the North/South subject is itself a divisive issue? Do you wish to point out how the North has suffered too, and invite me to empathise with this suffering? Do you wish to clarify what I mean by “regeneration” and “recolonisation”?

Do you wish to talk about how humanity is one and that we should seek to unite, not divide? Do you wish to tell me how wise and compassionate I am, and how I must seek to turn my “passion” in to “positive” momentum?

Do you wish me to empathise with your views and validate them with a reassuring smile? Do you wish me to roll out a red carpet to receive you from your shining limousine built with environmental and social injustice?

Do you wish me to slowly, gently take your hand and lead you comfortably through — stopping for a break when you need it — the global history, present and future of oppression that is how the human world operates?
